The Gibson Les Paul Guitar
60The Popular Gibson Les Paul Guitar
Arguably one of the most popular electric guitars ever designed is the Gibson Les Paul. I know of over 100 different models; some recently fetching as much as $400K.
Probaby the most collectable is the Gibson Les Paul with the Vintage Sunburst Finish. The years between 1957 to about 1961 with 1958 being the "hot" year are the most valuable. Prices vary depending on the Pick-up options and tremelo arrangements as well.
The Les Paul has been the guitar of choice of so many of the most famous rock 'n roll musicians you can't really name them all. I will leave it by saying that Jimmy Page, Dickey Betts, Joe Perry, Slash, Zakk Wylde and Ace Frehley all have custom versions of the Les Paul issued in their names!
The Les Paul comes configured with soap box pickups, known for their "blues" sound .You can have one with 3 humbuckers or 2, there were even versions with single coil pickups! You can get one with a Bixby Tremelo or a stoptail bridge.
And the finishes are as varied as the electronics I mentioned earlier.
There is the sunburst finish, quilted maple, the goldtops, flametops, birdseye top; not to mention the Dale Earnhart , Indian, and the Corvette (as in Chevy Corvette) models.
And just when you think there couldn't be another new Les Paul model we have the recently released Gibson Les Paul Robot Guitar that not only self tunes but can tune itself in a number of different popular guitar tunings .
Innovation, beauty of design and personalized killer tone...what else could you want from a guitar !

Woe - that's a great picture of Jimmy. I just got back into guitars after digging up some of my old band pictures. I had a '69 Gibson EB-1 bass and '64 Thunderbird IV. Right now, I'm interested in Les Pauls and that's how I found your page. If you get a chance, please check out my Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar Blog http://www.gibsonlespaulelectricguitar.com
